Final Results

Verona, N.Y. -- The Villanova men's golf team finished up play at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, shooting a final round of 309 (+21) for an ninth place finish. Over the weekend, the Wildcats carded rounds of 322-304-309 = 899 (+71).

Missouri won the tournament for the sixth straight year, and was the only team that was under par the entire tournament.

UNCW finished in second place, followed by Boston College, St. Peter's University, Cleveland State, VCU, Western Carolina, Northern Kentucky, and Villanova in ninth. Bucknell, Binghamton, Youngstown State, Detroit Mercy, Sacred Heart and Alabama State rounded out the leaderboard.

Villanova was led by senior Andy Butler. He shot a 73 (+1) in the final round to finish the weekend tied for 12th place with rounds of 79-73-73 = 225 (+9). Sophomore Captain, Connor Daly was not too far behind, as he carded rounds of 71-74-77 = 232 (+16) to finish tied for 28th place.

"We were able to put ourselves in a good position during some very difficult play conditions in the first round. But, as the weather improved in rounds two and three, we lost ground to the field. We have a lot to work on between now and the St.John's trip". Coach James Wilkes on the weekend performance.

Freshman Matt Barnes tied for 52nd place with rounds of 80-79-83 = 242 (+26). Senior Zach Egermayer finished a few strokes behind Barnes. He finished for 69th place, carding rounds of 96-78-76=250 (+34). Will Bryne finished tied for 70th place with rounds of 82-83-87 = 252 (+36).

The Wildcats will be back in competition Sept. 9-10 at The Doc Gimmler, hosted by fellow BIG EAST member St. John's.
