VILLANOVA, Pa.- Villanova men's tennis hosted Connecticut on Friday evening at the Bryn Mawr Racquet club. In their first match of the season, the Wildcats defeated the Huskies.

"I was iimpressed with our play tonight against a Connecticut team that is always ready to put up a fight. After a slow start in the first couple of matches during the doubles point, I thought the team really responded well by settling down and playing what I have come to expect from Villanova doubles," Tennis head coach Brad Adams said.

After a tough start in doubles competition, Villanova was able to settle in and win two doubles matches. William Elmore and Tommy Mulflur competed first where they won the match 6-3. Stefan Suarez and Mike Czlonka also won their match with a score of 6-4.

Individually, Dylan Flanagan, Tommy Dodson, and Suarez all captured wins in route to Villanova defeating UConn. Flanagan defeated his opponent 6-1,6-2 while Dodson won his match, 6-2,6-2. Suarez's match helped the Wildcats clinch the victory as he won his match 6-4,6-1.

"I was pleased with the poise that the team showed in singles, playing with high energy and showing an even keel mentally during a challenge from their opponents. I think this was a quality win for the program playing a former Big East rival for the first match of the season and look forward to keeping the momentum going for Delaware Sunday afternoon," Adams said.

After Delaware Sunday afternoon, the Wildcats will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete against Drexel on Feb 2 at 9 a.m. After the match they will return to host Colgate also on Feb 2. At 6 p.m.
