Facing Off: No. 8 Villanova will travel to Long Island this weekend to take on the Hofstra Pride. First faceoff is set for 12:00 P.M.
A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats are 2-0 for the first time since the 2012 season and currently sit at No. 8 in the USILA Poll and 7 in the Maverik Media Poll. Most recently Villanova defeated then No. 5 Yale by a final of 10-9 in overtime in Frisco, Texas. It was another win in OT that got the season's first win at Penn State on February 3rd.
Villanova's Offense: Senior attackmen Christian Cuccinello and Danny Seibel have led the Villanova offensive line this season. Cuccinello has seven goals on the season while Seibel has seven points on six goals and one dish. Also at the top of the point totals are a pair of freshmen, Colin Crowley and Keegan Khan; they have been making their impact known early this season. Khan found Crowley for the game tying goal against Yale forcing OT.
Villanova's Defense: The young backline made up of sophomores Zachary Kryza and Matt Webster and freshman Owen Prybylski have been playing well during the first games of the season. Combined they have 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Between the pipes Nick Testa picked up his second win of the season against a ranked team. He as 24 saves on the season and a .467 save percentage. At the center X Dan Fisher went 5-for-5 at the end of the game and 9-for-13 (.692) overall. Leading Villanova in ground balls (11) and caused turnovers (5) is junior defensive middie TJ Comizio. Comizio also dished out the game winning assist against Yale.
A Look at Hofstra: The Pride come into Saturday's game 0-1 after a season opening loss on the road at Ohio State. Prior to the season, goalkeeper Jack Concannon was named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Team. Overall the Pride were slated to finish second in the CAA this season.
Hofstra's Offense: In their season opener Ryan Tierney led the Pride with four points on two goals and the same amount of assist's while junior attack Jimmy Yanes had a hat trick. Netting the two other goals for Hofstra was midfielder Brendan Kavanagh and attackman Dylan McIntosh.
Hofstra's Defense: Concannon had 11 saves against Ohio State last weekend which gives him a .550 save percentage going into Saturday's game. The primary faceoff taker for the Pride will be Kyle Gallagher. Last weekend he went 9-for-18 with five ground balls.
