Recap | Final Stats | USATSI Gallery

  • Villanova is making its 38th appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament this season, and with the victory over Radford the Wildcats now have a record of 59-36 (.621) in their 95 tournament games. This is also the 13th time in the past 14 years that Villanova is appearing in the NCAA Tournament. The stretch began in 2005, and since then the Wildcats have won 22 of their last 33 tournament contests.
  • Villanova head coach Jay Wright has a career record of 22-13 (.629) in the NCAA Tournament, including 13 appearances with the Wildcats and two while he was the head coach at Hofstra. Wright has led Villanova to five NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, three Elite 8 berths, two Final Fours and the 2016 national title.
  • One of the biggest keys to the Wildcats victory was their proficiency from three-point range. Villanova made 14-of-27 (51.9%) three-pointers in the game, including 7-of-9 accuracy in the game's first 12 minutes when the Wildcats raced out to a 34-10 lead. The overall performance from long distance marked the 20th time this season that Villanova made at least a dozen triples.
  • There were two major milestones related to three-pointers that the Wildcats eclipsed in Thursday night's contest. Villanova entered the game with 388 made three-pointers on the year, which was three behind Savannah State (391) for the Division I lead this season. Savannah State has already ended its season, and the Wildcats took over the Division I lead with 402 three-pointers made on the year.
  • Villanova also became the sixth Division I team ever to make at least 400 three-pointers in a single season. If the Wildcats were to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, the all-time Division I record of 442 triples could be within reach. That record was set during the 2006-07 season by VMI. The three-point rule began with the 1986-87 season.

  • Tonight's leading scorer was junior guard Jalen Brunson, who scored 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. This was the 13th time this season that Brunson led the team in scoring. Brunson has scored in double figures in 41 consecutive games dating back to last season.
