HELLERTOWN, Pa.- The Villanova golf team wrapped up play at the Coca-Cola Invitational on Sunday. The team placed fifth out of a field of 17 shooting rounds of 294-302=596 (+14). The team returns to action on Monday Apr. 9 when they come home to host the annual Wildcat Invitational in Malvern, Pa.
Rhode Island won the tournament after shooting rounds of 300-287=587 (-1). Rhode Island was paced by Lehigh, Robert Morris, UCONN, Villanova, Fordham, Holy Cross, University of Ottawa, Binghamton, Siena, Bryant, Monmouth, Lafayette, Rider, Hofstra, Niagara, and Lafayette's B team.
Senior Andy Butler led the team in scoring as he carded rounds of 70-73=143 (-1) and placed fourth overall. Sophomore captain Connor Daly placed tied for 11th overall as he shot rounds of 75-72=147 (+3). Freshman Matt Barnes finished tied for 31st after scoring rounds of 71-81=152 (+8). Freshman Reb Banas carded rounds of 79-76=155 (+11) and placed tied for 53rd overall. Senior Zach Egermayer placed tied for 79th overall as he shot rounds of 78-83=161 (+17). Sophomore Connor Downey competed as an individual placing tied for 92nd after carding rounds of 86-82=168 (+24).
