April 9, 2018 Day One Results
MALVERN, Pa.- The Villanova golf team wrapped up day one play at the Wildcat Invitational this afternoon after carding a team combined round of 305 (+21) to earn them placed in 17th overall. The team returns to action tomorrow morning to wrap up the Wildcat Invitational as the shotgun start will begin at 10 a.m.
Local Big Five rival Drexel leads the 19-team field after carding a team combined round of 282 (-2). The Dragons are followed by St. John's, Saint Peter's, Fordham, Delaware, Wagner, Rhode Island, Lafayette, Lehigh, Binghamton, Iona, Siena, Bucknell, Le Moyne, Rider, Monmouth, Villanova, Colgate and La Salle.
Villanova was led by sophomore captain Connor Daly in the combined team score, who carded a round of 74 (+3). He is tied for 27th heading into tomorrows final round. Senior Andy Butler, freshman Reb Banas and Matt Barnes each shot a round of 77 (+6) and are currently tied for 67th overall. Senior Zach Egermayer shot a round of 84 (+13) and is currently tied for 99th overall.
Seniors Will Bryne and Andrew MacMillan each played as individuals as Bryne carded a round of 78 (+7) and is currently tied for 81st while MacMillan shot an impressive round of 72 (+1) as he is currently tied for seventh overall.
Sophomore Connor Downey and junior Andrew Bowyer who each also played as individuals each carded a round of 74 (+3) and 90 (+14).
