NEW ORLEANS – The Villanova women's volleyball team fell to the Tulane Green Wave 3-1 in their second game at the AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Volleyball Classic.
Sophomore outside hitter Mallory Potts led the Wildcats with 15 kills. It was her fifth game this season with double digit kills.
Junior setter Emma Decker had 34 assists. Junior libero Regan Lough had 25 digs which is her second highest number of digs in a match this season.
In the opening set, the Green Wave led 10-5 but then the Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to take the lead. The two teams would trade points back and forth before Tulane went on a 4-0 run to lead 20-16. The Wildcats responded with a 3-0 run to make it a one-point match. With the score tied at 22, Tulane went on another scoring run to take the set 25-22. During this set, there were eight ties and four lead changes.
The second set started off back and forth. Villanova led 10-8 and then Tulane led 14-12. The Wildcats tied it up at 14 after a kill by Mallory Potts. The Green Wave then went on to win the set 25-15. Senior outside hitter Darcy Wolf had four kills for the Wildcats during this set.
The third set started the same way as the second set with the teams trading points back and forth. During the third set, there were 14 ties and seven lead changes. The match was tied at 12 then Tulane went on a 3-0 run. With Tulane leading 17-20, Villanova went on a 5-1 run to take the lead 22-21. The Green Wave tied the match at 25 but the Wildcats would take the next two points to win the third set 27-25.
The Green Wave jumped out to an early lead to start the fourth set and never looked back. Tulane went on multiple runs and the Wildcats were not able to gain any ground. The Green Wave took the set 25-16.
The Wildcats will conclude the Sugar Bowl Tournament tomorrow at noon against Arkansas Little Rock. Fans can follow along the match with live stream and live stats.
