Villanova, Pa.- The Villanova Wildcats (4-2) will take on Virginia Tech (2-1-3) at Talen Energy Stadium Friday at 5:00 P.M. This will be part of a double header with the men's team who will host Penn State at 8:00 P.M. The games can be seen on BEDN.
A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats are coming off a 1-1 weekend on the road. In a Friday night matchup in South Carolina Villanova fell to Clemson 1-0, with freshman keeper
Hensley Hancuff having eight saves. On Sunday it took until overtime but the Wildcats defeated the Brown Bears 1-0 on a golden goal by
Jasmine Ruiz. In the 93
rd minute on an indirect free kick in the box,
Kristin Barbour tapped the ball to Ruiz who placed her shot into the opposite side of the net for the 1-0 win.
In the opening weeks of the season the Wildcats defeated LSU (1-0 OT), James Madison in the home opener (3-2), and Lehigh (5-0). This was Villanova's first three game winning streak since the start of the 2011 season and they have been led offensively this season by a trio of underclassman.
Chloe O'Neill has a team high seven points on two goals and three assists while
Bri Austin and
Niki Molina both have four points on the season.
A Look at Virginia Tech: The Hokies are coming off their third tie of the season; they went scoreless through double overtime against Georgia and now hold a 2-1-3 record. Virginia Tech started off the season tying both San Diego and Georgetown in their own tournament. Since then they picked up back-to-back 2-1 wins over UNC Wilmington and High Point and fell to Alabama 1-0.
Named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, junior goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn is in her third season as Virginia Tech's starting keeper. Currently she has 0.60 goals against average and .857 save percentage with a total of 24 saves. Three Hokies have netted goals this season while another five have dished out assists. Freshman forward Karlie Johnson has found the back of the net twice and leads the team with four points.
