Malvern, Pa. – Villanova finished in fifth place at the Wildcat Fall Invitational at White Manor Country Club after a final round 297 to bring Villanova to 22-over for the week. Rhode Island pulled away to take home the team title at 6-under, and Boston College's Christian Cavaliere took home the individual title at 16-under.
The course played tougher on a warmer and brighter Tuesday, and Villanova, along with much of the field, added a couple of strokes to their previous round scores.
Matt Minerva finished 2-under for the tournament after shooting 2-over in the final round to pace the Wildcats yet again. The freshman had a breakout weekend as he led the Wildcats during all three rounds. Minerva finished tied for fifth place and was one of just eight golfers in the field under par.
Senior
Reb Banas matched Minerva in the final round with a 2-over, and finished the tournament 7-over and tied for 19
th in his first start of the season.
Noah Peck wasn't far behind, with a 3-over 74 in the final round and 8-over for the week. Peck did have three birdies in the round, including back-to-back birdies at holes seven and eight. Peck finished tied for 21
st.
Danny Dougherty rounded out the Wildcats' scoring by shooting 10-over for the tournament and 5-over today.
Jack O'Hara had a tough final round, shooting 8-over to take his tournament total to 18-over. O'Hara was largely hurt by an unlucky break at the par-3 14
th, when his ball seemingly disappeared and led to re-teeing it and a triple bogey.
Playing as individuals,
Mark Benevento shot a final round 76 (+5) to finish 10-over,
Matt Davis fired a 4-over 75 to finish 11-over and
Luke Alexander shot 11-over to finish 35-over.
Villanova will get a weekend off before heading to Johnson City, Tenn. for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate hosted by ETSU Oct. 11-13.
