Jonesborough, Tenn. – Villanova golf improved for the second straight day to record a 301 in the final round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn at the Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn.
The Wildcats finished with a team score of 917 to place 15
th at the tournament. No. 16 Louisville took home the team title, just edging the hosts East Tennessee State. Jack Rhea of ETSU was the top finishing individual at 201, propelled by a second-round 63.
Reb Banas played his best golf of the tournament on the final day, shooting 2-over 74. Banas cut out some of the costly mistakes in his previous rounds and finished with two birdies and four bogeys on the day.
Matt Minerva salvaged a solid round of 3-over 75 thanks to some stellar play in his final three holes. While he didn't have a birdie yet in the day through 15 holes, the freshman caught fire and birdied the last three to shoot his best score of the weekend.
Noah Peck also shot 75 with two birdies in his round. Peck started hot with each birdie in his first five holes to get him to 2-under, before giving some strokes back and finishing over par.
Jack O'Hara played a fairly steady round that featured 14 pars and finished with a 5-over 77. O'Hara was rock solid for most of the front nine, but did bogey the ninth hole for his only blemish on the front.
Mark Benevento had a setback from yesterday's 74 and shot 79 in the final round. He did pick up a birdie on 17, but was plagued by double bogeys on the front nine.
