Strong Pitching and Rauch's Two Run Home Run Lead to Win Over Saint Joseph's

Philadelphia, Pa. – Villanova defeats Saint Joseph's 3-2 and pick up their first true road win of the season.

Unlike the home opener, this one wasn't a high scoring game, but the Wildcats still found a way to come home with the victory.

Anissa Amarillas and Sara Kennedy pitched excellently allowing just two runs over seven innings. Amarillas went the first four giving up just two runs and one earned, and then Kennedy came in to lock down the last three giving up just one hit and one walk.

The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single to center field. Villanova would get the run right back in the fourth inning when Amarillas would hit into a double play, but Julia DaCosta would score to tie it up.

St. Joseph's would then get their second run of the game on an error and take a 2-1 lead heading to the fifth.

Their one run lead would not be enough however, as Paige Rauch stepped up to the plate in the top of the fifth with Angela Giampolo on, and launched a no-doubter to deep right field to give the Wildcats the lead, and what would turn out to be the win. This is her second home run in as many games and she now has
eight on the year to go along with 23 RBI.

The next time the Wildcats are in action will be part of BIG EAST play as they head to Seton Hall for a three-game series. Saturday will consist of a double header starting at noon with the second game being played 30 minutes after the first game ends. The series will then wrap up Sunday at noon.
