BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Villanova men's tennis team lost a hard fought battle against the Butler Bulldogs 4-3 on Friday evening.
Head coach Bradley Adams on the match, "Obviously a very tough loss against a very strong conference opponent. Our guys came out with a lot of energy and played some high level doubles to clinch the doubles point.
Thomas Dodson and
Charlie Schuls played some great singles securing wins. Schuls was extremely impressive gritting out the first set wining the tie break 15-13, just an unbelievable effort.
Dylan Flanagan put up a great fight in an extremely tight two tie break match. Although the result was not what we wanted there were a lot of positives that we can take away to prepare us for the conference tournament in three weeks. We look forward to playing Loyola (MD) on Sunday.
In doubles play, the Wildcats won all three matches. On court no. 1,
Tyler Roth and
Thomas Dodson defeated Dragos/Roegner 7-6 (4).
Stefan Suarez and
Tommy Mulflur beat Ben Shabat and Mag on court no. 2. The doubles team of
Dylan Flanagan and
Charlie Schuls bested Lang/Brennan 6-4 on court three.
The Bulldogs got the first two points from singles play by winning on courts one and two. The Wilcdcats then tied the match up at 2-2 when
Thomas Dodson defeated Shabat 7-5, 6-3 from court no. 3.
Butler then won on courts six and four to clinch the match.
Charlie Schuls defeated Lang on court six in two sets including winning the first set tiebreaker 15-13. Schuls won his match 7-6 (13), 6-4.
The Wildcats next home match is on Sunday March 31st against Loyola (MD) with start time of 1:00 p.m.
