Villanova, Pa.-
Corey McManus led the Villanova offense once again as the Wildcats picked up their first BIG EAST win of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats defeated Marquette 15-11 on Alumni Day.
McManus scored the Wildcats first goal of the day and the final of the first quarter to put Villanova up 4-3 at the end of 1.
Keegan Khan and
Matt Campbell scored the other goals for Villanova in the first. The offense continued into the second with Villanova scoring four goals while the Golden Eagles netted one to put Villanova up 8-4 at halftime.
McManus picked things right up again at the start of the third scoring two goals in 30 seconds both of passes from
Connor Kirst. Marquette started to fight back going on a five goal run to bring the game within on but Campbell set up Kirst for a goal with just seconds to go in the third to put Villanova back up two.
The final quarter McManus scored the first goal once again, this was his sixth goal of the game.
Patrick Daly netted one on a dish from Khan to put Villanova up four. Andrew Romagnoli would complete the hat trick for Marquette on a goal at the 10:28 mark. Khan and McManus would net back-to-back goals and the Golden Eagles got one in the final minutes to make the final 15-11.
Will Vitton finished with 13 saves on the day while
Dan Fisher and
Zack Ornstein went a combined 16-for-31 from the center X.
The Wildcats will continue BIG EAST play next weekend when they travel to Denver. Game time is set for 5:00 P.M. ET and can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
