Despite a Fast Start Villanova Falls to Georgetown, 16-13

Washington, D.C.- The Villanova Wildcats fell to the Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday afternoon by a final of 16-13. 

The Wildcats came out to another strong start, holding a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Villanova's Corey McManus, Matt Campbell, and Connor Kirst scored the first three goals of the contest to push the Cats up 3-0 just over five minutes in.  Jack Carraway netted the Hoyas goal at that 9:08 mark but Chris Donovan set up Keegan Khan just seconds later to push the lead back up three.  Campbell scored the final goal of the quarter at the 1:08 mark as the shot clock was winding down. 

Villanova and Georgetown went back and forth scoring goals in the second quarter, with the Wildcats goals coming from Patrick Daly set up by Khan and then Khan scoring an unassisted goal at the 9:33 mark.  Georgetown's two early goals came from Lucus Wittenburg and Daniel Bucaro.  The Hoyas closed out the final 1:45 of the second scoring three goals to make the Wildcats lead 7-6 at halftime. 

Georgetown continued the scoring trend into the start of the third quarter, scoring the first two goals to give them their first lead of the day.  TJ Comizio set up McManus to tie the game back up at 8 but the Hoyas then scores two more to take a 10-8 lead.  Daly netted two more goals for the Wildcats in the third but the Hoyas also scored twice to make their lead 12-10.

Carrraway scored the first two goals of the final quarter to push Georgetown's lead to 14-10 but the Wildcats fought back.  Villanova scored three straight goals of their own to bring the game within one.  Daly set up Eric Overbay to start the run, McManus netted the next, and Daly scored the final goal on a pass from Overbay.  With just seconds on the shot clock Austin McDonald dove to score for the Hoyas to push them back up two.  Daniel Bucaro would net one more for the Hoyas to make the final 16-13.   

Will Vitton finished with 15 saves on the day.   SSDM TJ Comizio had two caused turnovers, now is tied for third all-time in program history with 57. 

Villanova will return home to host the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 P.M.  The game can be seen on Nova Nation All-Access.  Prior to the game the teams 11 seniors will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony.
