Towson, Md. – Softball split two games of a double header against Towson on Wednesday. The Wildcats dropped the first game 2-1 before winning the second one 3-2.
Game One
Towson jumped out to an early lead going up 2-0 on a solo home run.
Gabby Wenn got the ball and pitched a great game going six innings allowing six hits, one walk, and just two runs, while also striking out a pair.
Lauren Hanna hit her first home run of the year in the seventh inning on a no doubter to deep left field. This cut the lead to one, but the Wildcats could not get another runner across the plate.
Caroline Jones went 2-2 with a double and also walked in the game.
Emily Estroff picked up the other hit for the Wildcats which came in the seventh inning.
Game Two
The Wildcats would strike first in game two when Hanna had another RBI hit that would score
Delaney Switzer. However, Towson would answer right back with another two-run home run in the first.
After the home run
Sara Kennedy would shut down the Tigers and picked up her sixth win on the season. She threw a complete game allowing five hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out four.
Angela Giampolo tied the game up in the fifth inning on an RBI single to center field that scored
Kendall Ohman. Giampolo would come around to score on a sacrifice fly hit by Switzer. That would put the Wildcats up by one, and that would be all that Kennedy needed for the win.
Giampolo finished 3-4 and
Paige Rauch finished 2-3 with a walk. Hanna, Ohman, and
Sydney Hayes would pick up the other hits to round out the eight the Wildcats had.
Georgetown will be next up for Villanova with a double header on Thursday, and the series finale on Sunday. Live stats will be available.
