Box Score 2 Villanova, Pa. – Villanova won both games against Georgetown on Thursday, winning the first one 10-2 in six innings, and winning the second game 9-6 in eight innings.
Game One
The Wildcats put in a full performance in game one with excellent offense, defense, and pitching.
Lauren Hanna got the game started off for the Wildcats hitting a two run single to left field that scored
Paige Rauch and
Caroline Jones.
Georgetown got one run back in the first off of Rauch got the start on the mound for Villanova. The Hoyas only other run would come in fourth inning off of a solo home run. Rauch finished the game going six innings and allowed four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out 10 while also picking up her 10
thwin on the season.
Sydney Hayes would give the Cats their third run of the game with her third home run of the season. After Georgetown would cut it to one in the fourth, the Wildcats would blow it open in the top of the sixth.
Becky Ducar would walk that scored Switzer, and the next batter was
Kendall Ohman and she came through in a big way hitting a bases clearing triple to deep left field.
Angela Giampolo would then score Ohman on a sacrifice fly. The next batter was Rauch who would double in Hayes. The final run came on a
Delaney Switzer single that would score Jones.
Rauch would shut down the Hoyas in the sixth for the first win of the day.
Game Two
In the second game of the day, the Wildcats would jump out to an early lead, but the Hoyas would come back to take the lead.
Giampolo doubled to lead off the game and after advancing to third, Rauch would hit her in for a 1-0 lead.
The scoring would continue in the second when
Ryan Henry doubled and scored
Julia DaCosta. Giampolo would strike again and would hit a two-run home run to left field. The very next batter was Rauch and she would also hit a home run. This was her 12
thhome run of the season, and now holds the Villanova single season all-time home run record.
The fourth and fifth innings are when Georgetown would get their runs and would take the lead 6-5 heading into the sixth.
However, you can never count out Villanova and Rauch delivered an RBI double in the sixth inning scoring Hayes to tie the game at six.
In the eighth inning Rauch would complete her first ever cycle with an RBI triple to deep center field and would score Giampolo.
The Cats were not done as Jones delivered an RBI single and Switzer hit an RBI double to put Villanova up 9-6.
Sara Kennedy got the start and went 4.1 innings and allowed seven hits and six runs.
Gabby Wenn came in relief of her and picked up her second win of the season with 3.2 scoreless innings pitched allowing just four hits and two walks while also striking out three.
