Queens, N.Y. –After dropping game one 8-3, the Wildcats rallied back in game two for a 6-4 victory.
Game One
St. John's jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Wildcats would be held off the scoreboard until the third inning when
Angela Giampolo singled to left, and then
Paige Rauch came up and hit a mammoth shot to right field. Two batters later
Delaney Switzer hit her first career home run to left center to tie the game at three.
The Red Storm would finish the game with five unanswered runs to shut the door and take game one.
Game Two
The Wildcats would strike first in game two.
Kendall Ohman hit a ball to the shortstop that would bounce off of her wrist into center field and would allow Rauch and
Caroline Jones to score.
St. John's would then score the next four runs of the game including a two-run home run in the second, an RBI single in the third, and a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
In the seventh inning Villanova would come through four a huge four spot.
Jordan Olivarez walked to lead off the inning and then
Lauren Hanna would be the next batter up and she would walk too. Giampolo walked to load the bases, and Rauch would then also walk to cut the lead to 4-3. Jones would be up next and would deliver with a sacrifice fly to center field to tie it up. Switzer would be the next batter up and would walk to load the bases. The next hitter was
Becky Ducar who would hit a sacrifice fly to give the Wildcats the lead. Ohman would then deliver an infield RBI single to add some insurance heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Sara Kennedy would strike out two in the seventh and would shut the door on the Red Flash. She pitched a complete game allowing six hits, four runs, three earned, just one walk, and struck out four. She improved her record to 8-2 on the year.
The three-game series will come to a close tomorrow with first pitch being set for noon. Live stats will be available and the game will be shown on ESPN3.
