NEWARK, Del. – The Villanova baseball team defeated the Delaware Blue Hens 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Four different Wildcats had two or more hits.
Getting the start on the mound for Villanova was Jimmy Kingsbury who pitched seven innings allowing eight hits, four runs, two walks and struck out three. With the win Kingsbury improves to 4-4 on the year.
Nick Lorusso went three for five with two doubles and a walk. It was Lorusso's fifth game this season with three or more hits.
Dylan McNary had two hits and three RBI. It was his second game this season with three RBI.
Tyler Bruno walked and Dylan McNary singled through the left side to start the top of the third inning. Nick Lorusso hit a one out single to the shortstop to score Bruno from third and give Villanova a 1-0 lead.
Delaware responded in the bottom half of the inning with a bases loaded one out single through the left side scored two runs to make it 2-1 Delaware.
The Wildcats responded quickly in the top of the fourth. Chris Rotondo led it off with a double to center field. Sam Margulis was hit by a pitch and then John Heilenbach walked and the bases were loaded for Tyler Bruno.
Bruno walked and the game was tied at 2-2.
Dylan McNary doubled down the left field line and cleared the bases to give the Wildcats a 5-2 lead.
Pat O'Neill singled to shortstop and McNary advanced and the Wildcats had runners on the corners with one out.
Nick Lorusso singled up the middle scoring McNary and it was 6-2 Villanova.
With runners on first and second, JP Radvany doubled to right center scoring both O'Neill and Lorusso to make it 8-2 Wildcats.
Delaware scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to make it 8-4 Villanova.
Cameron Mathes came in to pitch the final two innings and he allowed only one hit and struck out three.
The Wildcats held on to win 8-4 and improve to 11-29 on the year.
Villanova will return to Villanova Ballpark on Wednesday May 1st against the Maryland Terrapins. It is salute to service day and first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
