PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Villanova baseball team fell to the Seton Hall Pirates 6-3 in the second game of Saturday's double header. Earlier in the day the Wildcats tallied a 6-5 victory in game one at Villanova Ballpark.
Starting pitcher for Villanova was Jimmy Kingsbury who pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits, six runs while striking out six. The six runs came in the first three innings, but Kingsbury settled in after the sixth inning retired 10 of the previous 12 batters.
Seton Hall started the game with bunt single down the third base line by Huntzinger. The next batter singled to center field and advanced to second after a fielding error in the outfield. Del Castillo was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded. Toke hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score the Pirates' first run of the day. With two outs and runners on second and third, Grober tripled to right center field to score both runners and make it 3-0 Seton Hall.
The Pirates led off the third inning with a home run to left field by Dana. With one out and a runner on first, Shedler tripled to right center scoring Toke from first. The next batter reached on a fielder's choice to first base and the runner from third beat the throw home to make it 6-0 Pirates.
In the bottom of the sixth, Chris Rotondo was hit by a pitch and then moved to second after JP Radvany drew a walk. Ryan Toohers walked after an eight pitch at bat to load the bases with one out. Pat O'Neil grounded out to the shortstop but was able to score Rotondo to make it 6-1.
The Wildcats had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the eighth and then Dominic Sarro singled to left center to load the bases. Sam Maruglis walked to score Lorusso and make it 6-2. The next batter Tyler Bruno hit a sacrifice fly to right center and scored Toohers to make it a three run game at 6-3.
Villanova in the bottom of the ninth had two runners on with two outs but couldn't do anything with it.
The series against Seton Hall will conclude on tomorrow afternoon (April 7th) with first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
