Softball Splits Against Providence

Villanova, Pa. – With two games on the day, Villanova fell in game one 2-1, but came away victorious in game two by a score of 4-0.

Game One
Game one of the day featured an absolute pitcher's duel, with two of the best in the conference going at it.

Both pitchers went the seven-inning complete game. Daniela Alvarez pitched for the Friars and finished allowing one run on four hits, one walk, and struck out five. Paige Rauch got the ball for Villanova and finished allowing two runs on seven hits, one walk, and struck out 11.

Providence got one run in the fifth and another in the sixth, both off of singles to take a 2-0 lead. Becky Ducar delivered an RBI single in the sixth to cut it to a one run lead.

The Wildcats would try and put together a rally in the seventh. Ryan Henry led off the inning with a single to right. Sydney Hayes would then reach on an error, and Angela Giampolo would walk to make the bases loaded and just one out. However, Villanova could not tie the game as Alvarez would get the next two batters to make outs.

Game Two
The second game of the double header brought another low scoring game, but the Wildcats came out of this one on top 4-0.

Sara Kennedy pitched an absolute gem throwing a three-hit complete game shutout allowing just three hits and didn't allow a single walk. She also struck out three Friars.

All four Villanova runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kendall Ohman delivered the first run when she hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Julia DaCosta. The next batter up was Hayes and she delivered a single to right field that would score Ducar. Giampolo would then deliver the knockout punch with a two-run double to right center that would score Hayes and Jordan Olivarez.

The four runs were more than enough for Kennedy as she would cruise through the last three innings in route to her fourth win of the season.

The series will wrap up tomorrow at noon and the game will be broadcasted on Fox Sports Go.
