OMAHA, Neb. - The Villanova baseball team fell in game two 4-1 against Creighton University on a windy Friday evening at TD Ameritrade Park.
Chris Rotondo and
JP Radvany both hit a double.
Gordon Graceffo started for the Wildcats, pitching seven complete innings allowing five hits, three earned runs while striking out four batters. The seven innings pitched was Graceffo's second longest outing of the season.
In the top of the second, the Wildcats got three straight walks to load the bases for
Timothy Lilly with no outs. Lilly then hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring
Doug deMarrais to give Villanova a 1-0 lead. It was Lilly's 24th RBI of the season, third best on the team.
Creighton quickly responded in the bottom of the second with a leadoff single followed up by a double to left center field that score the runner to tie the game.
The Wildcats had a chance to take the lead in the top of the fourth with runners on the corners with no outs but Creighton made a pitching change and retired the next three Wildcats in order.
In the bottom of the seventh, Creighton had a runner on second with two outs. Meggs singled to right field scoring the runner to give Creighton their first lead of the ballgame.
Creighton added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-1.
Villanova was retired in order in the top of the ninth and Creighton won 4-1.
The series will conclude tomorrow afternoon with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. ET
