Rumson, NJ – Villanova raced its first event of the year at the Rumson Boat Race Saturday morning and had a strong showing in the unique 2,500-meter race.
Villanova raced two boats, the V8 and JV8, with each boat finishing in second. Drexel, Army West Point, US Coast Guard and Rutgers all competed in the event, with Drexel winning both races.
Villanova held a lead in each race through about the six-minute mark before being overtaken by Drexel.
"I was really proud of the way both boats handled themselves on the water," said head coach
Carissa Adams. "This is the closest we have been to Drexel since we began competing in this race. It was a great way to start the season and to give the team a bit of motivation to continue training hard this fall in preparation for our spring competition season."
