Wildcats in 12th after 36 holes of Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Villanova golf pieced together two solid rounds on the opening day of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate to put them in 12th of 15 teams. Villanova posted rounds of 294 and 301 Monday to total 595 on the North Course of Fort Lauderdale Country Club.

Noah Peck paced the Wildcats in both rounds, shooting a team-best 71 in the opening round followed by a second-round best 73. Peck complied eight birdies on the day to aid his score.

In his first start of the spring, Matt Davis played two steady rounds of 74 and 75. He was near the top of the field with 23 pars today, also good for the most on the team.

Reb Banas was just behind Peck with rounds of 75 and 76. Banas played the par-fives about as well as anybody, going 6-under on those holes, the second-best mark on the day among all golfers.

Danny Dougherty and Mark Benevento rounded out the scoring each carding 154 for the day. Benevento got there with back-to-back 77s, while Dougherty went low before giving a few back in round two shooting 74-80.

Villanova takes the course tomorrow at 8:10 a.m. off No. 10 for the final round.
