PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Philadelphia Big 5 today announced the 2019-20 women's award winners. Four Wildcats were honored highlighted by head coach
Harry Perretta being named Coach of the Year and redshirt freshman forward
Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) earning Rookie of the Year honors and first team distinction. Senior forward
Mary Gedaka (Mullica Hill, N.J.) garnered first team accolades for the second straight year, while
Bridget Herlihy (Braintree, Mass.) claimed Honorable Mention acclaim.
Perretta finished his illustrious Villanova career by leading the Wildcats to an 18-13 overall record, an 11-7 BIG EAST mark and a 3-1 Big 5 record which was good enough to earn a share of the City Series crown. This represents the 18
th Big 5 title for Perretta and the Wildcats. Perretta ended his 42-year career with an all-time record of 783-489 to go with 20, 20-win seasons, 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, five BIG EAST championships, while coaching 79 All-BIG EAST performers, including 19 first team honorees. He currently ranks 13
th on the NCAA all-time Division I coaching list with his 783 victories.
Siegrist led the Wildcats in scoring (18.8 ppg.), rebounding (8.9 rpg.) and three-point field goals (62) and finished the year with 11 double-doubles. She tallied 28 double figure scoring games, including 15 games of 20 points or more. Her 41-point effort against La Salle is the most points ever scored in a Big 5 women's game. Siegrist set two Wildcat freshman records this year, including 20-point games with 14 and points by a rookie in a season with 583.
Gedaka finished the season averaging 17.4 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest to go with 94 assists and 35 steals. She tallied 29 double digit scoring games this year and 82 for her career. Of the 82, 23 were of 20 points or more, including 12, 20-point games this past season. She also tallied eight double-doubles this year and 15 for her career. Gedaka finished her Wildcat career ranked sixth in program history in scoring with 1,555 points and eighth in rebounding with 718.
Herlihy finished third on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game to go with a 5.1 rebounds per game average. She also registered 83 assists and led the Wildcats in blocks with 53. Herlihy recorded 14 double figure scoring games in 2019-20, including a career-high 22 points in the final game of her career against Marquette in the BIG EAST Tournament.
