ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Kate Bohonnon

The women's tennis program has been fortunate to have many alumni who have gone on to represent the program and Villanova to a high standard.

We want to highlight one of these former student-athletes who is doing special and important work in her community: the Class of 2011's Kate (Monari) Bohonnon.

Bohonnon, after graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Villanova's School of Nursing, pursed a career in health care.

For the last nine years, she has been working as a pediatric nurse. She has spent the last five years working with critically ill kids in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

In 2016, Bohonnon (pictured above) was recognized by Jeff Thomson, MD, division head of Orthopedic Surgery at Connecticut Children's Medical Center, for the outstanding care she gave one of his patients.

Bohonnon is also one half of another Villanova Tennis love story. While on the women's squad, Kate met her future husband Liam Bohonnon, who played for the men's team from 2008-2012.

The two started dating in college, and stayed together after graduating. Liam went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut's Law School.

Kate and Liam got married in 2017, with former teammates and both Villanova men's and women's head coaches, Steve Reiniger and Brad Adams, in attendance.

“Our teammates and coaches are some of the most special people in our lives and were there to celebrate with us on our wedding day," Kate said.

Kate said she is still so proud to be a Villanova graduate and a former Wildcat student-athlete. When the men’s basketball team won the NCAA title in 2016, she brought all her Nova clothes in for her co-workers to wear.

As a program, we want to thank Kate, and all those who work in the health care industry, for all that they do everyday.
