SAVANNAH, Ga.—Freshman
Peter Weaver (Frontenac, Mo.) shot one-under in the first round of his collegiate career and Villanova stood in 11
th place at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor when second round action was halted due to darkness on Saturday evening. Weaver carded a 71 (-1) in his opening round Saturday morning at The Club at Savannah Harbor, where 16 teams are competing over 54 holes this weekend.
After a full day of golf in their first competition of the season, the Wildcats had completed 16 holes in the second round and were shooting even par as a team with two holes left to play. Weaver was tied for 23
rd place individually at the end of the day and was at +1 overall after shooting two-over through 16 holes in the second round.
Graduate transfer
Ambrose Abbracciamento (Newtown, Pa.) and senior
Max Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.) were each shooting below par for the second round and the pair was tied for 47
th place individually at +4 overall. Abbracciamento was two-under through 16 in the second round and Siegfried was one-under for the round.
The five golfers in the Villanova lineup began the opening round at the 13
th hole and Weaver made four birdies for the round. He birdied his second hole of the day, the 318-yard 14
th, then made bogies at 15 and 17 to head for the front nine of the course at +1. Weaver then birdied three of the next five holes, including par-4s at No. 1 and No. 5 in addition to the par-5 fourth.
Siegfried and junior
Noah Peck (Hunt Valley, Md.) each shot 77 in the opening round, while Siegfried and sophomore
Matt Minerva (Elmsford, N.Y.) both carded a 78. The highlight of the day for Minerva came at the par-5 11
th where he made eagle with one hole to go in his opening round. He was also tied for second in the field with an overall score of -2 on the par-three holes on the course.
Villanova was in 14
th place after posting a team score of 303 (+15) in the opening round, but had moved up three spots to 11
th place with the second round in progress. Only one team in the field, George Washington, had completed its second round when play stopped on Saturday evening. Each of the other teams in the field had played between 13 and 17 holes.
Second round play resumes at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, with the third and final round tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m.
