A late goal by Temple proved to be the difference in a tight defensive battle at the Proving Grounds Saturday as the Owls edged Villanova 1-0.
Â
On a cold overcast afternoon in Conshohocken, Pa., shots were difficult to create as both teams kept chances to a minimum. Villanova, in fact, held the Owls without a shot in the first half while generating three of their own opportunities.
Â
The game remained deadlocked at zero after three periods.
Â
The turning point in this one came at 53:55 on the game clock. A shot by Taylor Alba of the Owls was saved by Wildcats' goalie
Jordan McGinley. But Temple's Cassie Romanczuk pounced and the rebound and sent it into the goal for the day's only score.
Â
           The Wildcats'
Emily Clarke,
Ashley Thomas,
Riley Dolan and Sabine DeRuijter had Nova's shots on goal in this one.
Â
These two teams will get right back at it tomorrow on Temple's home turf in Philadelphia. That one is slated to get underway at noon.
