Overtime Goal Carries Wildcats Past Temple 2-1

Emily Clarke scored the winner off a rebound

Box Score Emily Clarke knocked in a rebound to the short side of the goal in overtime to lift Villanova to a 2-1 victory over Temple Sunday in Philadelphia. The winner was scored less than two minutes into the first 10-minute overtime period (61:54).

The Wildcats (1-5 overall, 1-5 BIG EAST) had possession for much of the extra time. A quality scoring chance that was turned away by Temple led to a penalty corner to the right side. Clarke fed the ball to Sabine De Ruitjer, whose shot on net was stopped by Temple goalie Cristina Carotenuto. The ball, however, rolled to her left, where Clarke was standing to knock it into the net.

The goal capped an excellent second half that saw Nova rally to tie it in the third quarter before getting the winner in overtime.

Temple got the game's first goal at 10:49 of the first period when Cassie Romanczuk – who scored the only goal in Saturday's 1-0 Owls victory over Villanova at the Proving Grounds – scored.

Villanova's first goal of the afternoon came at 35:48. Clarke picked up the assist as Caitlin Van Goeverden scored for the Wildcats to tie this one up.

Next up for the Wildcats are a pair of home games with Quinnipiac next Saturday and Sunday at the Proving Grounds.
