SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.—Villanova has completed the first two rounds of play at the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic, where 13 teams are competing at Mid Pines Golf Club over two days this week. Freshman
Peter Weaver (Frontenac, Mo.) is leading the Wildcats through the first 36 holes with a score of 77-77=154 (+10) and is tied for 40
th in the field overall. The teams are playing the final round of the tournament on Tuesday on the par-72 course which is playing at 6,633 yards this week.
Weaver came in second in the Villanova lineup in his collegiate debut at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor last month and carried his strong play into his first two rounds in North Carolina. He made three birdies in each round and finished the second round coming in at 37 (+1) on the front nine of the course after the Wildcats teed off from the 10
th hole in the first two rounds.
Senior
Reb Banas (Winnetka, Ill.) and junior
Noah Peck (Hunt Valley, Md.) each shot 159 (+15) through their first two rounds. Peck led Villanova with a round of 74 (+2) over his first 18 holes before coming back with an 87 in the second round, while Banas posted scores of 78 in the first round and 81 in the second round. Peck birdied the 10
th hole to begin his opening round, added another birdie at No. 6 and wound up playing even par over the final 13 holes in the first round.
The fourth and fifth members of the Wildcats lineup were senior
Max Siegfried (Villanova, Pa.) and graduate transfer
Ambrose Abbracciamento (Newtown, Pa.). Siegfried shot rounds of 79-82=161 (+17) and Abbracciamento was close behind him with scores of 81-84=165 (+21).
Freshman
Jonathan Elkins (South Deerfield, Mass.) is making his collegiate debut playing as an individual this week and was tied for 62
nd overall after the first two rounds of play. He carded an 81 in the opening round before shooting a 78 in the second round which included consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth holes.
Villanova was in 13
th place in the team standings after the second round of play.
