McClay and Ashman Earn BIG EAST Honors

New York, N.Y. – Villanova had two players recognized by the BIG EAST on Monday afternoon when the league announced its weekly awards, including junior goalkeeper Megan McClay (Flower Mound, Tx.) and freshman Lauren Ashman (Binghamton, N.Y.). The Wildcats garnered recognition following a 1-0 loss to No. 2 North Carolina on April 1.

For the fourth time this season, Megan McClay has flourished in net and received a weekly honor. The junior picked up her third BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week award after battling for 84 minutes in the cage and posting five saves without allowing a goal. The imposing North Carolina attack was on full display and McClay remained poised and turned away every scoring opportunity.

While McClay was successful in net, the fierce Wildcats defense helped turn away additional Tar Heel opportunities. Rookie Lauren Ashman was all over the field on defense for 90 minutes and earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts. The freshman elevated her game and welcomed the challenge from North Carolina by intervening on passes and blocking shots.

The Wildcats will return to the pitch on Thursday, Apr. 8 when they travel to Seton Hall. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 ET in New Jersey. Be sure to follow @NovaWSoccer on Twitter and @novawsoccer on Instagram for updates throughout the season.
