Villanova Has Five Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

New York, N.Y.- The BIG EAST Conference announced the women's lacrosse major award winners and all-conference team on Wednesday, May 5th prior to the start of the BIG EAST Championship.

Graduate student Katie Comerford was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team.  Joining her on the first team were midfielder Libby McKenna and defender Sydney Frank.  On the All-BIG EAST Second Team both Brittany Bruno and Alexa Tsahalis were selected for Villanova.

Comerford, who was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team in league play this season has scored 29 goals and dished out 17 assists for 46 points.  In the Wildcats first game against Marquette the graduate student had nine points on six goals and three assists and in both games against Butler finished with seven points.  On the senior Comerford has scored 36 goals and dished out 28 assists for 64 points.  Last season Comerford broke the all-time points record at Villanova and this season also broke the all-time career goals and assist records. 

McKenna this season in BIG EAST play has scored 14 goals and dished out 10 assists for 24 points, the most of any Villanova midfielder.  Against Georgetown and Marquette, the junior had six points in the first game of the series and had a season high seven in the opener against Wagner.  On the season McKenna has netted 28 goals and dished out 12 assists for 42 points.   

Frank earned All-BIG EAST honors for the second time in her career.  This season the junior has had 28 ground ball, 19 caused turnovers, and won 39 draw controls in league play.  Overall, on the season Frank has 39 ground balls, won 62 draw controls, and caused 24 turnovers.  Against Denver in the final game of the regular season the junior broke the all-time career caused turnover record.  She currently has 70 in her three seasons. 

This is Bruno's second straight All-BIG EAST Second Team honor.  The senior this season has picked up 27 points in league play on 20 goals and seven assists.  Bruno netted the OT game winner against UConn on Senior Day, which helped the Wildcats clinch the final spot in the conference tournament.  Overall, this season Bruno has netted 28 goals and dished out nine assists for 37 points, which is third most on the team. 

Tsahalis broke out this season during BIG EAST play.  The junior midfielder picked up 20 of her 27 points this season against BIG EAST team scoring 14 goals and dishing out six assists against league foes.  In five BIG EAST game Tsahalis scored a pair of goals and finished with three in the opener against Butler. 

Villanova earned the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and will face off against No. 1 Denver on Thursday, May 6th in Washington, D.C.  Game time is scheduled for 4:30 P.M. and can be seen on BEDN.
