Providence, R.I.- Two late goals lifted the Georgetown Hoyas over the Villanova Wildcats Thursday evening in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinal game.
Senior
Keegan Khan had a game high five goals. The attackman started the game by scoring Villanova's first two goals to give them a 2-1 lead five minutes in. The Hoyas scored their second of the quarter to tie it, but the Wildcats would close out the first on a two-goal run to go up 4-2.
Eric Overbay netted the first and
Tucker Goodelle the second.
Khan opened the second quarter scoring to make it 5-2 Villanova. The Hoyas cut the lead to one scoring two quick goals with 10:53 to go in the quarter.
Colin Crowley dished it to
Corey McManus to push Villanova back up by two but Georgetown would score the pair before halftime to make it 6-6.
Villanova's offense came out strong to open the third quarter.
Patrick Daly set up McManus in the opening seconds and Overbay netted his second of the game less then a minute later to put Villanova back up 8-6. The Hoyas would score two more before the end of the quarter to tie it up at 8.
The Hoyas took the lead on an early goal, this was the first time Georgetown led since they were up 1-0 in the first.
Chet Comizio picked up his first assist of the season on a pass to
Keegan Khan to tie it back up. Georgetown answered scoring just 10 seconds later to take a 10-9 with 13:59 to play.
Colin Crowley scored a top shelf goal to tie the game up and the Hoyas's answered with a goal to retake the lead with 10:21 left. It would be Khan, who would tie the game, up on a dish from
Gavin Burke to keep Villanova in the game. For the fourth time in the quarter Georgetown scored and the Wildcats answered to tie it. This time it was
Owen Prybylski with a put back goal with 8:00 to go. The senior was in the right place and took the rebound off a saved shot taken by Burke to make it 12-12.
Georgetown's TJ Haley, who also finished with five points, made the difference for the Hoyas offense. Haley scored the goal to put the Hoyas ahead 13-12 and assisted the insurance goal at 3:33 to make the final 14-12.
Dan Fisher went 11-for-21 at the faceoff x with five ground balls while
Patrick Kennedy had six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Will Vitton finished with seven saves, with three of them coming in the first and fourth quarters.
