VILLANOVA, Pa.-The Villanova baseball team released their schedule for the 2023 season which includes 24 games at the Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The Wildcats are coming off a 19-29-1 (8-12 BIG EAST) season and had two players selected in the 2022 MLB Draft and one signed as a free agent.
Cole Patten, a pitcher, was drafted in the 17 round by the Detroit Tigers and
Chris Rotondo was drafted in the 19 round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Danny Wilkinson, a left handed pitcher, signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Villanova will begin their 2023 season on February 17 with a trip to Peoria, Arizona to take on Washington State University in a two-game series. They stay in Peoria for one game against UC Riverside.
The Wildcats will then head south to North Florida for another three-game series from February 24-26. Then they will head close to home to take Towson in Maryland on March 1.
The Wildcats will continue their road trip and cross over to the west coast for a three-game series against San Francisco from March 3-5. Villanova will then make the short 13-mile drive to take on Cal Berkeley for one game on March 7.
Villanova will finish out their tour of the east coast by taking on Santa Clara in a three-game weekend series from March 10-12. They will then head back to Pennsylvania and face off against intrastate competitors, Penn on March 15.
The Wildcats finally return to Plymouth for their home opening weekend against Rider on March 17-19. Villanova will jump on the road for a quick game at Bucknell on March 22, then head home for a series of games versus Iona from March 24-26.
After the series against the Gaels, Villanova will take on Lehigh to kick off the Liberty Bell Classic on March 28. If the Wildcats win against the Mountain Hawks, they will face the winner of Rider/Delaware State at home on April 4. If the Wildcats lose, they will go up against the loser of the same two teams and will be out of the Classic.
In between the first and second round of the Liberty Bell Classic, Villanova will return home to face off against Georgetown for the first BIG EAST Conference series of the season from March 31-April 2.
Following the second round of the Liberty Bell Classic, the Wildcats will take on another conference rival, Creighton away from April 6-8. They will then make their way back to Plymouth Meeting and go head-to-head with the Penn Quakers on April 12.
The 'Cats will take a road trip to Butler for a three game BIG EAST showdown on April 14-16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Wildcats will make their way close to home for the Championship of the Liberty Bell Classic, which will be held at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies, if they advanced from the second round. The game will take place on April 18 if they qualify.
The Wildcats will host BIG EAST opponent, Xavier, for a weekend series from April 21-23. Villanova will also match up with Wagner at home for one game on April 25.
The Wildcats will remain at home for a three-game series against UConn from April 28-30. Villanova will then head down the mainline to take on Saint Joseph's for one game on May 2.
Villanova head to Queens, NY for a weekend of BIG EAST play against St. John's from May 5-7. Following this series, they will return home to host Monmouth for a game on May 9.
The Wildcats will take on the Boston College of the ACC for a two-game road series from May 13-14. The Wildcats will then return home for a quick one game face off against Saint Joseph's on May 16.
Villanova will conclude their regular season competition with a final three-game series at Plymouth Meeting against BIG EAST adversary, Seton Hall from May 18-20.
This year, the Big East Baseball Championship Tournament is set to be played at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio on May 25-28.
