PHILADELPHIA – Villanova's Brandon Slater and Temple's Aleah Nelson have been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Men's and Women's Players of the Week for the week ending December 18.
Men's Player of the Week
Brandon Slater, Villanova (Gr., F)
Slater led Villanova with 19 points on six-of-nine shooting from the field and added eight rebounds and two assists in leading the Wildcats to a 71-64 victory over Saint Joseph's. The win helped Villanova earn a share of the Big Five title, tying Temple with a 3-1 city-series record.
Men's Honor Roll
Damian Dunn, Temple (R-Soph., G) – Scored team-high 16 points and grabbed four rebounds in a loss at Ole Miss.
Josh Nickelberry, La Salle (Sr., G) – Scored 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting in loss at Cincinnati.
Erik Reynolds II, Saint Joseph's (Soph, G) – Tallied game-high 27 points against Villanova, hitting six-of-eight from three-point range, and 10-17 overall. Also handed out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.
Women's Player of the Week
Aleah Nelson, Temple (Sr., G)
Nelson scored a season-high 33 points, including her 1,000th career point, in a 66-60 home win over Duquesne on Dec. 16. Her point total is the most by any Owl since Mia Davis scored 33 against Houston on 2/5/19. She made 11-of-23 shots from the field (.478) and seven-of-17 from deep (.412).
Women's Honor Roll
Mia Jacobs, La Salle (Fr., F) – Scored 15 points in loss at USF.
Maddy Siegrist, Villanova (Sr., F) – Scored 32 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made four blocks in a 74-62 loss at #14 Iowa State.
