PHILADELPHIA – Goalkeeper
Megan McClay has been lauded for her academic excellence, landing a spot on the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team, as announced on Monday.
The graduate is the first Wildcat to earn a spot on the list since Kristin Barbour was an honoree in 2019. This is the 18
th such honor for Villanova since 2005.
McClay is one of 11 student-athletes named to the 2022 Academic All-Area team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices at 30 institutions in the Philadelphia area. Nominated student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their current institution and carry at least a 3.30 GPA.
The Flower Mound, Texas native picked up All-BIG EAST Second Team honors at the end of the season, becoming the first VU net-minder to earn a spot on the team since 2001. She picked up three wins and a draw in over 880 minutes of league action, holding a 0.82 goals against average and 61 saves with a .884 save percentage. All-told on the year, she had a 0.94 goals against average in 14 games with 13 appearances in the Starting IX. McClay finished second in the BIG EAST in saves with 73, save average 5.62, and save percentage .859.
