Pine Mountain, Ga. - After 32 holes at Callaway Gardens, the Villanova golf team remains in eighth place after shooting +4 in the second round. The par 72, 7,081 yard course has seen the Wildcats post a team score of +12 (296-292) after two days. Two eagles on Tuesday gave Villanova the most for the tournament with three total.
Villanova has two golfers inside the top 10, as
Peter Weaver and
Matthew Copeland are tied with three other players for fifth. Both have shot identical rounds to this point, both carding 70 in the first and 71 in the second. The graduate student Copeland has the most eagles in the tournament with two, one in each round so far. Weaver has posted seven birdies to lead the way for Villanova, while also holding the best score on par 3s in the tournament at one-under par.
Noah Peck shot 73 on day two, three strokes better than his score on day one. He sits at +5 (149) heading into the final round on Wednesday. His 27 pars are tied for the team lead with Copeland.
With one round left to play,
Vimal Alokam sits at +13 (80-77) and
Matt Davis sits at +14 (80-78). Both improved their low round scores by at least two strokes, as they each have six birdies through two days.
UConn's Caleb Manuel had an impressive day, after shooting -6, moving himself into first place with a six stroke lead. The Huskies are tied with Marquette at -6 (570) atop the team leaderboard. UConn leads the tournament with 35 birdies collectively, while Marquette has all five golfers inside the top 25.
