Men’s Lacrosse Has Five Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

New York, N.Y. – The BIG EAST Conference announced the men's lacrosse major award winners and all-conference team on Wednesday, May 4th prior to the start of the BIG EAST Championship.

Villanova senior Matt Campbell was a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection.  Joining him on the First Team is graduate student Brett Baskin.  The Wildcats also had a trio named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, SSDM Chet Comizio, faceoff specialist Justin Coppola, and attackman Luke Keating.

Campbell has led the Wildcats offense this season.  The midfielder turned attackman has a team high 57 points on 37 goals and 20 assists.  Campbell ranks in the top 10 in three different categories at Villanova: eighth in points with 158, sixth in goals with 109 and 1st in SOG per game (4.34).  In BIG EAST play the senior has netted 11 goals and dished out nine assists for 20 points.  This season against Denver and Providence Campbell finished with five points in both games, he picked up four points against St. John's and Georgetown, and a pair at Marquette. 

Baskin this season at midfield has 44 points on 28 goals and 16 assists.  In the Wildcats non-conference match-up at Brown the graduate student had a career high nine points on six goals and three assists.  Against the Friars Baskin pick up six of his 16 points against league foes.  In the BIG EAST this season he netted 11 goals and dished out five assists.  

Short-stick defensive midfielder Chet Comizio earns his first career All-BIG EAST honors.  The senior leads the team in caused turnovers with 22 and has 41 ground balls this season. In back-to-back games against Providence and Marquette Comizio had six ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.  During the Wildcats games against Yale and Penn Comizio had a season high three caused turnovers.

Justin Coppola currently ranks 9th in the country is faceoff winning percentage (.604) and 2nd in ground balls per game (9.08).  In all 13 games this season the junior has won over 10 faceoffs and finished with at least a .500 winning percentage.  Against Providence Coppola won a career high 21 faceoffs and collected 15 ground balls, also a career best.  Overall, this season he is 203-for-336 (.604) with 118 ground balls and seven points on three goals and four assists.  In league action the junior leads the conference in ground balls per game with 9.20. 

Luke Keating is the Wildcats offensive leader in BIG EAST action this season with a team high 23 points.  Keating had a season best eight points during the Wildcats win at Marquette.  Overall, this season the graduate student has netted 27 goals and dished out 29 assists for 56 points.  Keating was named BIG EAST Attacker of the Week four times, the most of any player this season.   

Villanova will now head to the BIG EAST Tournament to take on the Denver Pioneers.  The No. 3 Wildcats and No. 2 Pioneers will faceoff at 5:30 P.M. on CBS Sports Network in Washington, D.C.
