Road Swing Continues with Visit to Monmouth

VILLANOVA, Pa. – On the heels of a two-game stint at No. 5 Virginia Tech over the weekend, the seven-game road swing continues for Villanova this week as it heads to West Long Branch, N.J. on Tuesday for a 1:30 p.m. meeting with Monmouth at the MU Baseball Field.

Villanova (17-24-1) looks to get back on track and end a four-game losing streak, three of those against non-conference sides. Before the past week, the Wildcats had racked up an eight-game unbeaten streak against out-of-league opponents.

Tuesday marks the eighth meeting with Monmouth (21-22) since 1995 and the first since 2019. Villanova holds a slim 4-3 lead in the series but has dropped the last two. This will be the first time the two sides have gone to battle on Monmouth's home field.

Extra Bases: Villanova has hit for extra bases in nine consecutive games since April 22. In that time, the 'Cats have recorded 13 doubles and three home runs. AJ Hansen has been instrumental in that streak, hitting three doubles with two moonshots, driving in seven runs.

Rotondo Reaches: With a 2-for-4 showing from the dish and walk over the weekend, Chris Rotondo extended his reached base streak to 17 in a row. He is four off of his streak that he started the season with.

Scouting the Hawks: Monmouth has won two of its last five games and has put together an 11-4 record in home contests. Outside of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchups, the Hawks are 11-15 on the year. Villanova is the second BIG EAST opponent the Hawks have faced this season, the other being Seton Hall who they have split their two contests with. They took down the Pirates 7-6 on April 12 after falling 4-3 in 10 innings back on March 29. Graduate outfielder Jake Catalano leads the team with a .295 batting average, starting in all 42 of his appearances. He has scored 25 runs on 43 hits, driving in 24 RBI and working 17 walks. Junior infielder James Harmstead has rocketed a team-high 16 home runs this season while driving in 41 runs. Junior left-handed pitcher Trey Dombroski is 30th in the nation with a 2.31 ERA through 12 starts and has a 6-0 record. He has sat down 96 batters on the year, a mark that is 14th in the nation.
