Campbell and Comizio Named to PhillySIDA Academica All-Area Team

Philadelphia, Pa- Senior's Matt Campbell and Chet Comizio were recognized for their achievements both on and off the field during the 2022 season when they were named to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team.  Both were voted onto the team by the sports information directors of the Philadelphia area colleges and universities. 

This marks the eleventh time in the last 12 All-Area teams that men's lacrosse has had at least one player earn a selection.  There has not been an All-Area team since the 2019 season.

Student-athletes are eligible for Academic All-Area consideration by being a significant contributor to their teams while also maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher and in their second year at the school.  Campbell and Comizio are both Finance majors.

Campbell this season was named to the USILA All-American Team for the second straight year. Last month he was also named to Inside Lacrosse Media and USA Lacrosse Magazine's All-American Teams.  Through 15 game the attackman finished with 67 points and 45 goals, both were a team high, along with 22 assists.  He currently ranks fifth in program history in goals with 117 and is tied for sixth in points with 168.  This season Campbell scored at least one goal in every game, including a career high seven against Delaware.  In the BIG EAST Tournament, he netted eight goals, which is the most in conference history. Campbell earned a unanimous spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team and the All-Tournament team.

Comizio was also named to all three All-American team last month for the first time in his collegiate career.  The short-stick defensive midfielder earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors and broke into the top-10 in career caused turnovers with 41.  In the Wildcats 15 games Comizio had a team high 24 caused turnovers along with 49 ground balls.

Joining Campbell and Comizio on the Academic All-Area Team are Penn's Sam Handley, Patrick Burkinsaw and Piper Bond, Tyler Neal of Ursinus, Ryan Genord and Jack Mulcahy from Drexel, Zach Cole of Saint Joseph's, Swathmore's Von Mabbs, Eastern's Nicholas Fanelli and Connor O'Donnell of Chestnut Hill.  Handley was named the Performer of the Year.
