VILLANOVA, Pa. – After competing in a pair of regattas in the fall, the Villanova Rowing team now turns its attention to the spring as head coach
Carissa Adams unveiled the team's spring schedule on Wednesday.
The schedule breaks down to seven events over a three-month span with two in March and four in April before heading to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships in May.
Villanova's first race will take the group down to the Sunshine State to face Jacksonville on March 11. The is the second consecutive year that the two teams will be scrimmaging against each other. Two weeks after that season-opening trip, the 'Cats will head to Quakertown, Pa. March 25 to face Lehigh and Colgate on Lake Nockamixon.
April is a busy month for the Wildcats, starting with a pair of regattas on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. The month kicks off with the annual Doc Hosea Invitational on April 1 before the two-day Knecht Cup on April 15 and 16. This is the second consecutive year that the 'Cats will be in the field. Last year's appearance saw all three of its boats earn spots in their respective finals with the Varsity Eight highlighting the weekend with a hard-fought fifth-place finish.
Villanova closes the month with back-to-back weeks of competition, starting with the George Mason Invitational on April 23. Last year's trip down to the Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax, Va. resulted in Villanova boats making all four Grand Finals, including a win by the Varsity Eight. The group stays on the road the following weekend as it heads to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell. Villanova competed on Bucknell's home course last year in a CAA dual with Eastern Michigan and UConn, picking up five wins on the day including a sweep by the Varsity Eight boat.
All of this leads up to the CAA Championships on May 12 at the Fish Creek Marina in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Villanova finished fifth at last year's championships on the Cooper River, earning 21 team points in its four races.
