VILLANOVA, Pa. – The third event of the fall slate takes the Villanova Rowing team to Ridgefield, N.J. for the NYRA Invitational on Sunday.
Villanova is a week removed from a strong showing at the Head of the Schuylkill where the V4A recorded a silver-medal finish. That was the program's first medal at the regatta since 2017 and the best finish for Villanova at the event.
This week, Villanova will take a pair of eights on the water to take on Fairfield and UConn in morning heats. Both V8 heats will be vying for spots in the afternoon finals with the winners and the next fastest finishers heading to the A Finals. Both second-place boats at the third-place finishers in the first heat will head to the B Finals.
"We are excited to race against Fairfield and UConn in our heats," Villanova head coach
Carissa Adams. "The team has had great practices since the Head of the Schuylkill and are ready to transition into sprint race format this weekend. These next few weekends will help our team feel encouraged and motivated to train over the winter break so we can be competitive with Jacksonville in our first race of the spring."
Villanova's V8 will hit the water at 10 a.m. with the 2V8 getting underway at 10:20 a.m. The afternoon finals for the eights are set to begin at 1 p.m. starting with the V8 B Final that is followed by the V8 A Final at 1:10 p.m. The 2V8 Finals start at 1:20 p.m. starting with the B Final and the A Final at 1:30 p.m.
