WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Wildcats fell in an abbreviated match to Howard in a 4-2 loss.
Â
A delay in play due to Villanova travel and highway traffic pushed the match start time back and only allowing for singles matches to be played.
Â
Singles numbers one through four fell to their Bison opponents in close battles especially from
Bella Steffen who forced her challenger into a tie breaker.
Â
The two wins of the day came from veteran Wildcats,
Caitlin Fisher and
Amanda Rivera-González who had challenging adversaries in their head to heads.
Â
The senior captain, Fisher took on Howard's Alexandra Blackwell taking an easy 6-1 win in set one and a close 7-6 (9) tiebreaker win to take the point.
Â
Fisher's co-captain and fellow senior, Rivera-González faced off against Emnet Simunyola taking the first set 6-3, losing the second 2-6, and ultimately becoming victorious in a 7-0 tiebreaker win.
Â
Unfortunately, the Wildcats just fell short but played well in the shortened competition.
Â
The Wildcats return to action on Friday February 24 to take on St. John's.
