Villanova Earns First Trophy of the Season With Win At Golden Horseshoe

Wildcats pick up their first team trophy since April of 2019

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Villanova Wildcats earned their first trophy of the 2022-23 campaign on Tuesday, winning the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.

It's the first team trophy for Villanova since April of 2019 when the Wildcats finished first of eight competitors at the Explorer Invitational.

The 'Cats finished with a total score of 868 (289-293-286), leading the field in par-4 scoring and finishing second on par-3s and par-5s.

Villanova climbed seven spots to the top of the overall leaderboard on the last day, notching the best score of any team on day two with a two-over.

Ryan Pamer earned fourth in the field after shooting a one-over 72 in the final round to finish with a one-under for the competition. The freshman totaled two eagles in his 54 holes, both on the sixth hole, to lead the field and had one of the best rounds of the event with a five-under to open the competition.

Peter Weaver got his fourth top 10 finish of the year after a seventh place, one-over performance over the two days, shooting a 70-74-70 at the Golden Horseshoe to follow last year's medalist effort.

Jason Lohwater impressed in the third round with a three-under 68 on the day to vault himself to T-10th on the leaderboard. The graduate transfer had six birdies on the final day and tied with Weaver for fourth in total birdies.

Joshua Lavely finished with a 14-over to end up T-45th in the field, with his best round being a one-over 72.

Individual competitor Vimal Alokam tied for 60th after a 232 in Virginia, with his best set of 18 coming in Monday's second round.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will make a return to Pennsylvania for the first time this spring, hosting the Wildcat Spring Invitational at Lulu Country Club from April 10-11.
