VILLANOVA, Pa. –
Justin Moore is returning to Villanova for his final year of eligibility in 2023-24 he announced Friday night via his Twitter account.
Over the course of his first four seasons, this native of Fort Washington, Md., has already carved a niche for himself in Villanova Basketball lore. As a newcomer in 2019-20, he was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team, averaging 29.9 minutes and 11.3 points per outing. In 2020-21 he helped lead the Wildcats to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and a year later was instrumental in helping Villanova claim a BIG EAST Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Final Four earning a place on the NCAA South Region All-Tournament team.
A tear to his right Achilles tendon suffered in Villanova's 50-44 victory over Houston in the NCAA Elite Eight brought an abrupt end to a superb junior campaign. Days later he underwent surgery to repair the damage on the eve of the 2022 NCAA Final Four in New Orleans. Moore ultimately returned to the court on Jan.29, 2023 against Providence and ultimately played 13 games, helping the Wildcats knock off Top 25 Xavier and Creighton in February. He averaged 32.0 minutes, 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.
"We're thrilled that Justin has decided to return to Villanova for a fifth season in 2023-24," stated Villanova head coach
Kyle Neptune. "Over the final weeks of last season, we saw the enormous impact he has on the court. Justin is, in my opinion, one of the elite guards in college basketball.
"Even as he went through the lengthy recovery from his surgery last season, Justin was an invaluable leader for our guys. His will and commitment to the core values of our program impacts every one of his teammates and coaches. It's a great day to be a Wildcat."
In 105 career games, the guard has scored 1,381 points (13.2 ppg) and 418 rebounds (4.0 rpg). He retains a final year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 season of 2020-21.
