Villanova Athletics Secures a New Home for Villanova Rowing

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University announced today that land in Conshohocken, Pa., has been secured to create a new home for the Villanova Rowing program on the Schuylkill River. The purchase of 601 Washington Street, the site of Villanova's current Boathouse, is part of Villanova's ongoing commitment to creating best-in-class facilities to support its 600+ student-athletes, coaches and staff.

The new permanent location for Villanova Rowing is underpinned by a lead gift from Terry and Patty Cavanaugh. The Cavanaugh family have been longtime and passionate supporters of the Villanova Rowing program since their daughter, Maggie Cavanaugh, Villanova Class of 2017, was a captain and member of the team during her time at Villanova.

"In order to compete at the highest levels of Division I and offer the best possible student-athlete experience, we have been actively looking for a more permanent location on the Schuylkill River for our successful Rowing program," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Jackson. "The purchase of 601 Washington Street is a significant milestone toward making our vision for Villanova Rowing a reality, and I want to thank the Cavanaugh family for their generous support of the project and Villanova Athletics."

While a timeline for completion of the project and designs for the space have yet to be finalized, the acquisition of the property is a major step forward in the realization of the project that has long been a priority for Villanova Athletics. The goal for the new Boathouse, which will benefit our women's varsity and men's club teams, is to create a place of pride for Villanova Rowing student-athletes, coaches, staff and alumni, the impact of which will be felt on the program for many years to come.

Future updates about the project and its progress will be available on villanova.com.
