UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Villanova fell to No. 15 Penn State 18-10 on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats fall to 0-1 for the first time since 2021
After falling behind 10-2 at the halftime break Villanova played well in the second half cutting the Penn State lead to six in the third quarter.
Colin Michener was impressive for the Wildcats in his first game after missing last season due to injury. The redshirt freshman scored four goals and picked up three ground balls. Fellow freshman
Nicholas Lucchesi scored two goals in the contest with
Matt Licata and
Thomas McIntire each picking up a goal and an assist for the 'Cats.
Turnovers were the deciding factor for Villanova as they gave the ball away 24 times with Penn State only causing 13 of them.
Justin Coppola was 21-31 on faceoff attempts and tallied 10 ground balls while goalie
Anthony Wilson recorded six saves in the loss.
Matt Traynor led Penn State with five goals with TJ Malone and Kyle Lehman recording hat tricks. Goalie Jack Fracyon recorded eight saves in the win.
The Wildcats return to action next week when they travel to Yale on February 17
th. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in New Haven.
