VILLANOVA CRUISES TO 69-41 WIN OVER SETON HALL

-Lucy Olsen Led The Wildcats With 21 Points And 10 Assists –

VILLANOVA, PA. -- In women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon, the Villanova Wildcats had four players reach double figures in a convincing 69-41 win over the visiting Seton Hall Pirates. With the victory, Villanova improves to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in BIG EAST play, while Seton Hall is 13-9 on the year and 5-6 in league action.

Villanova led 16-12 with 2:12 to play in the opening quarter, when the Wildcats closed the period on a 9-2 run to lead 25-14 after one. Junior guard Lucy Olsen was sensational in the game's first 10 minutes, scoring 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a 3-of-3 effort from three.

The Wildcats shot the ball extremely well in the first quarter, connecting on 11-of-18 from the field and 3-of-6 from downtown. Seton Hall was 7-of-13 and 0-for-2. The Pirates committed five first quarter turnovers that Villanova converted into eight points.

Azana Baines scored on a turn around jump shot to cut the Villanova advantage to 29-24 with 3:28 to play in the second quarter, before Villanova scored the final five points of the half to take a 34-24 lead into halftime. The five Wildcat points included a three-ball by junior Bella Runyan and 15-foot jumper just before the buzzer by Zanai Jones.

The Wildcats took control of the game at the start of the second half, as Villanova began the third quarter on a 13-0 run to open-up a commanding 47-24 advantage at the 4:13 mark. Four Wildcats scored in the spurt highlighted by Runyan who had five of the 13 points on a deep three and a driving lay-up.

Seton Hall scored eight of the final 10 points of the period to cut the Villanova lead to 49-32 after three quarters of play.

The late third quarter momentum did not carry over to the fourth quarter for the Pirates. Villanova scored the first eight points of the fourth to put the game away with a commanding 57-32 lead. The eight Wildcat points included three-balls by Runyan and junior Kaitlyn Orihel and a lay-up by junior center Christina Dalce.

Villanova would lead by as many as 30 in the fourth quarter and cruise to the win.

In the victory, Olsen led the way with 21 points and a career-high 10 assists, while Runyan had 11 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Jones and Dalce chipped in with 10 points each. Dalce was also credited with a game-high nine rebounds.

Seton Hall was paced by Azana Baines with 10 points.

For the game, Villanova was 31-of-61 from the field (50.0%), 7-of-21 from three-point range (33.3%) and 0-for-4 from the foul line, while Seton Hall shot 34.0 percent from the floor (17-of-50) and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe (7-of-8). The Pirates were also 0-for-13 from three-point range. The Wildcats had a 37-27 advantage on the backboards.

Villanova will now be off until Saturday, Feb. 10, when they travel to Marquette for a BIG EAST battle.

NOTES: Villanova has won 14 of the last 17 versus Seton Hall…The Wildcats improve to 8-3 in home games…This was the fourth time this year that Villanova had four players score in double figures…Zanai Jones has scored in double figures in four straight games and has 53 points in the four contests…Lucy Olsen now has 15 games of 20 points or more this season…Christina Dalce moved past Shelly Pennefather and Bridget Herlihy and into third place on Villanova's all-time blocked shot list with 138 career blocks…Today is the first time since Jan. 16, 2015, that Villanova did not make a free throw in a game…Villanova had over 60 former alums return this afternoon for the program's annual Alumni Game.
