VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Wildcat lineup got back to its old ways on Saturday afternoon, blasting four homers and totaling 11 hits in a 10-1 run rule win over the St. John's Red Storm.
Ally Jones, Ava Franz, Brooklyn Ostrowski and Maranda Runco all belted two-run dingers for Villanova (21-17, 12-2 BIG EAST) as Tess Cites and Lilly St. Jean each totaled two hits in the ballgame.
Kat Gallant earned the victory with three strikeouts and just one run allowed in her four frames as Alyssa Seidler threw one inning of relief and struck out two in a hitless stanza.
After Gallant retired the visitors 1-2-3 in the opening frame, the Villanova bats came to play with five hits and five runs on the first five batters. Cites started things out with a double into deep left, then Elaina Wagner scored her shortly over on a base knock down the line.
Jones proceeded to crush one out of the park, clearing the fence by a good margin for a two-run bomb and three-run edge.
St. Jean singled through the right side before Franz equaled Jones' feat, putting one over the wall in right center for a 5-0 lead before any outs were recorded.
Neither side got on the board in the next two innings despite both threatening, up until the Johnnies loaded the bases and walked one in during the fourth.
The Wildcat lineup got back to mashing in the fifth as St. Jean led it off with a double and scored on an error, then Ostrowski sent a no-doubt bomb out to left for the third VU homer of the game.
Kelsey White ripped a double into the right field corner, then it was Runco's time to shine as the freshman blasted a deep shot off the top of the center field netting to walk the game off on her first collegiate hit.
UP NEXT: The series finale is due for Sunday at 12:00 p.m. on the Main Line with the Wildcats looking to sweep their fourth opponent of the BIG EAST calendar.
