CHERRY HILL, N.J. – After racing was canceled Saturday, Villanova took to the water on Sunday morning for an abbreviated day of action at the Knecht Cup.
All three of Villanova's boats raced in the morning heats but did not land in the afternoon finals.
"The team did a great job being flexible this weekend," Villanova head coach
Carissa Adams said. "The cancellation of races on Saturday could have thrown our team for a loop, but the team adapted well to the change in schedule. I am proud of every boat's performance and am looking forward to racing more crews at the George Mason Invite next weekend."
The best finish of the day came from the Varsity Eight team of
Cate Donnelly,
Maggie Coyne,
Kira Capaldi,
Sarah Robillard,
Kara Dempsey,
Jadyn Ramos,
Anna Flynn,
Silvana Torres and
Cecilia Jenkins. The group finished in second place with a time of 6:51.10, just under eight seconds behind Boston's winning time of 6:43.14. The 'Cats were in a close middle of the pack battle that saw 4.65 seconds separating second and fourth, edging out third-place Fordham (6:54.58) and fourth-place Stetson (6:55.75).
Villanova's 2V8 shell of
Gianna Zajac,
Grace Quirk,
Sage Santora,
Sabrina Pauli,
Rachel Patrykus,
Makenna Davis,
Katie MacClary,
Natalia Brozyna and
Maeve Bonass posted a time of 7:14.77 that was good enough for fifth in its heat. The group was 2.1 seconds behind Duquesne in fourth.
The V4 team also finished fifth in its heat.
Madison Girard,
Mary Tracy,
Emmi Stanton,
Meg Wolf and
Taylor Pansy produced an 8:39.54 finish, also finishing behind a fourth-place Duquesne (8:27.24) in that race.
