Rowing Set for CAA Championships

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Coastal Athletic Association Championships have arrived for Villanova Rowing, sending the Wildcats to the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. Friday and Saturday.

This is third event of the year that is taking the 'Cats to the Cooper River, the other two being the Doc Hosea regatta and, most recently, the Knecht Cup. Their last outing in Pennsauken was shortened from two days of action to one on April 14 due to weather. That day, the V8 logged a team-high second-place finish, posting a time of 6:51.10 in the morning heats.

Last year, Villanova finished fourth at the conference event that was held in Saratoga Spring, N.Y., compiling 22 team points, the most by a Villanova squad since joining the conference in 2016. Both the Varsity 8 and the Second Varsity 8 recorded fourth-place finishes. This current group of Wildcat seniors have seen the team finish as high as third at the championships in their careers with Anna Flynn and Kara Dempsey both racing in that 2021 outing with the 3V8 and the 2V8 boats, respectively.

Three Villanova boats will race in the championship field. The V8 enters as the highest-seeded Wildcat boat, sitting as No. 4 with a spot in Friday's first heat that will begin at 9:30 a.m. The 'Cats face No. 5 seed UConn, top-seeded Northeastern and No. 8 seed Monmouth in that heat. The seventh-seeded 2V8 will launch at 10 a.m. against No. 6 Eastern Michigan, No. 2 Delaware and No. 3 UCSD. The V4, also entering as the seventh-seed, will face a similar heat at 10:20, racing against No. 6 Eastern Michigan, No. 2 Delaware and No. 3 Drexel.

All of Friday's results will pave the way to Championship Saturday where the earliest Villanova could hit the water would be at 9:40 a.m. for the V4 petite final or the 9:50 grand final. The finals continue with the 2V8 and the V8 before the awards ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

Both days of action will be broadcast live on FloSports with live results on regattatiming.com. More information about the race can be found on the Championship Central page.
